LOCAL JUNIOR IN NSW WATER POLO TEAM

Five Dock resident, John Hahn, has been selected to play for the NSW Under 14 water polo team at the upcoming East Coast Challenge. The tournament to be played in Brisbane at the end of this month will showcase the top junior water polo players from around Australia in what is becoming one of the fastest growing and popular team sports.

In only his second season of water polo, John is a member of the Drummoyne Water Polo Club.  With some 300 members, the Drummoyne club is one of the largest water polo clubs in Australia.

“We are committed to developing the junior talent on our doorstep,” said club President Andrew Murray. “Our work in recent years has been rewarded with the selection of a number of players to representative teams.

“Danial Roach was selected to the NSW Under 16 squad along with Andrew D’Ambrosia, Liam Roach and John Hahn in a NSW Development squad that won the bronze medal at the Australian Under 14 Club Championships recently held in Adelaide,” said Andrew Murray.

Such is its commitment to develop water polo, the Drummoyne club has recruited former Australian team player and Abbotsford resident Guy Newman as Club Coach.

An Olympian and current Australian and NSW Institute of Sport coach Guy will develop a club training program for juniors and coach a high performance squad including the best players available from the senior and junior ranks.

“Drummoyne has a very motivated and enthusiastic group of people that will make my job easier to develop an elite water polo culture within the club,” said Guy.

Guy is looking forward to his new role at Drummoyne and will be leading the clubs preseason training at Cabarita Pool from Thursday 5 September. Club training will move to Drummoyne Pool when it opens in the first week of October.

Drummoyne has teams entered in the Girls and Boys Under 14 and 16 competitions and Open Women’s and Men’s teams in the NSW Water Polo summer competition starting mid October.
