Drummoyne junior Aidan Roach has achieved another notch in his impressive water polo CV following his selection in the Australian Sharks men’s water polo team for the 2011 FINA World Championships. AJ is the first Drummoyne junior to achieve selection at a senior World Championship and caps off a rise through the Drummoyne Water Polo Club ranks that started as a 10 year old.  AJ was a member of the Australian team who finished sixth in the World League held in Florence, Italy and is looking for an improved performance when he competes in his first World Championship in Shanghai.

It’s been a busy but rewarding year for AJ who has been playing professionally in Serbia. Returning home following the World League AJ will get to spend some time with his family and friends before heading off to Perth and Singapore for camps prior to his first tilt at the World Championships.

Following the World Championships AJ will be joined in China by team mates John Hahn and Tyler Martin.  The three Drummoyne Devils have been named in a powerful Australian men’s team to defend the gold medal at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China. AJ and John were members of the team that claimed an historic victory at the 2009 World University Games in Belgrade.

AJ, John and Tyler all played their first representative water polo as members of NSW teams at the East Coast Challenge. A new group of Drummoyne juniors are off to Brisbane this weekend to play in the ECC and for some they get their first taste of representative water polo.

Congratulations and all the best to Adam Hall, Alex Corbett, Bronte Hare, Georgia Mirabito, Hannah Gray, James Hayward, Joel Foristal, Josh Rogers,  Josh Sharrock, Kate Biviano, Kailyn McLennan, Megan Moodie, Mitchell Taylor, Rowan Farrell, Sarah Churchyard, Sarah Harnwell and Tara Graetz on their selection in the NSW U14 teams to play in the East Coast Challenge. Congratulations also to Petar Petrovic and Wendy Stanton who will be on pool deck coaching NSW. AJ, John and Tyler remember their first ECC tournament and hope the juniors have a great time and along with all the Drummoyne Water Polo community wish them every success.
